Seedling sale, tulips and ordering update

April 22, 2024 Lise Holdorf

Heirloom Narcissus have started blooming!

While some of our greens are on the way out, this week we are excited to begin to offer tulips, narcissus and seedlings! We’ll have 2 pick-ups this week: Wednesday, April 24th 2pm - 6pm and Saturday April 27th 11am - 3pm. Orders for both days will open tonight (Monday April 22nd) at 6pm. If you are ordering for Wednesday pick-up, the online store will close at 6am on the 24th. If you are ordering for Saturday pick-up, those will close Friday at 6am. This will likely continue to be our online ordering schedule until we staff the farm stand in late May.

We will update inventory for Saturday sales as the week goes on, so if you don’t see something that you want at the beginning of the week, you can always check back later and we can add it to your existing order!

To place an online order visit:

https://openfoodnetwork.net/barrett-s-mill-farm/shop#/shop_panel

Available for order this week:

  • Tulips: Aafke (rose colored single type), Margarita (purple-magenta peony type), Orange Princess (orange double), Pep Talk (double type with pink, ivory and rose striations), Sunlover (peony type golden yellow with tangerine and red striations). We’ll likely have more varieties later this week (including Creme Upstar and Amazing Grace).

  • Heirloom Narcissus: Easter Born, Flower Surprise, Delnashaugh and Tahiti. We’ll likely have more varieties later this week.

  • Seedlings: Parsley, Sage, Lemon Balm, Oregano, Chives, and Thyme. See below for a complete list of what seedlings we’ll have this season! Cold sensitive crops like tomatoes won’t be available until mid May when frost danger has passed.

  • Pea shoots - 1/4lb bags.

  • Spinach - 1/2 lb bags: Limited - likely only available for Wednesday

  • Radishes - Sold by the bunch.

  • Kale mix - 1/2 lb bags. A mix of baby red kale, toscano and red Russian.

  • Arugula - 1/2 lb bags.

  • Green garlic - 5 stalks per bunch.

  • Mushrooms - From Fat Moon Farm in Westford, MA. Farmer’s Mix, shiitake and limited amounts of Lion’s Mane. All certified organic. For pictures and more information visit: https://fatmoonmushrooms.com/pages/types-we-grow. Only available for Saturday pick-up. We will stop taking mushroom orders Wednesday morning, as we have to submit final amounts to Fat Moon by then.

  • Baer’s Best Beans - 1 pound bags. Grown in South Berwick, Maine. Varieties available include: Black Turtle (certified organic, highest antioxidants of all beans), Vermont Cranberry (red Vermont heirloom, one of the best all-purpose beans), King of the Early (hearty heirloom red bean, ideal for chili and stews) and Jacob’s Cattle (native to Maine, classic choice for New England baked beans). 1 pound of dried beans yields about 3 pounds of cooked beans.

  • Double B Honey - From hives on the property. Not organic.

  • Raspberry Vinegar - From Silferleaf Farm in Concord, MA

Seedlings we’ll have available this year include:

  • Chard

  • Cucumber

  • Eggplant: Turkish Delight

  • Flowers: Zinnias (purple, yellow), Cosmos (white, blush cupcake, bicolor), Calendula, Lavender, Snapdragons (deep rose, lavender) and Strawflower (apricot/peach)

  • Herbs: Basil, Chives, Cilantro, Dill, German Winter Thyme, Greek Oregano, Dill, Lemon Balm, Parsley and Sage

  • Husk Cherries

We had a stellar sunrise last week - almost like a colorful preview of the flowers we’ll enjoy this spring!
