It was great to see so many of you at our January pop-up a few weeks ago! High tunnel greens growth always stalls a bit this time of year, so we will likely have our next sale in late February or very early March. Until then we will prep and seed more high tunnel greens for March and April harvest, repair greenhouse racks and wash station tables, repaint farm store tables, and work on our tulip forcing trial! In the office we will finish our organic certification paperwork, hire for next season, order supplies, work on a deer exclusion plan, update our website and write our annual report for the Town. By the end of February we will start up the greenhouse to seed the first transplants of the season. Amidst all of that we are each taking a week off with our respective families to recharge!
We are also continuing CSA and Barrett’s Bucks sign-ups for 2026! If you are a returning CSA member please email Melissa for the renewal link. For new memberships and for Barrett’s Bucks and Flower CSA sign-ups visit our online store: https://www.barrettsmillfarm.com/online-store.
The big news on the farm this month is the success of the fundraising effort by the Concord Housing Foundation to build an addition to the on-farm apartment where Melissa and her family live. The Concord Housing Foundation met their fundraising goal and are now moving forward with the necessary steps to begin construction. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the level of support exhibited in the fundraising campaign. In just a few months donations were received from 145 individuals and foundations. Contributions came from customers, neighbors, past employees, family members, friends, Stone Soup Inc. (which supports agriculture in Concord), as well as CHF supporters we have never even met!
Without adequate living space for both of our families, our future on the farm was feeling tenuous and we were holding back on making any plans for the farm beyond the next season. This outpouring of support not only lifts our spirits, but it makes it possible for us to continue farming here in the longer term. We are excited to be able to raise our families on the farm that we have worked so hard to build, as well as to grow organic vegetables for the community that has developed at the farm over the past 12 years. So, thank you to everyone who has shopped since we started here in 2014 and to everyone who donated to make this next chapter possible!
