Asparagus, seedlings and tulips this week

May 12, 2026 Lise Holdorf

This week we will have our farm stand open for self-serve during our regular farm stand hours: Tuesday - Friday, 11am - 6pm and Saturday 9am - 3pm. These will be our operating hours for the remainder of the season (until Saturday October 31st). Please note that there is road work on Barretts Mill Road planned for Tuesday morning 9am - noon. Farm stand customers will still have access to the farm if coming from Strawberry Hill Road/Lowell Road, but Barretts Mill Road will be closed between College Road and the farm stand.

Tulip update: We will also once again have tulips available to order for pick-up on Friday! We’ll send out an email on Wednesday with details about what varieties are available. Ordering will open at 6pm that day. There will also be limited bunches available for walk-up sales today (Tuesday) starting with the crowd favorite orange princess!

Seedling update: More tomatoes are ready and available starting today (Tuesday) including: Sungold, Cherry Bomb, Red pearl, Pruden’s Purple, Cherokee Purple, Striped German, San Marzano, and Moskvich. We have also resupplied our flower and herbs selection which now includes: strawflower, bachelors button, nasturtium, snapdragons, dill, basil, cilantro, parsley, thyme and lavender. See our 2026 Seedling Sale Descriptions for more details about each variety! Coming soon: peppers, eggplant zucchini, summer squash and cucumbers.

Self-serve farm stand hours:

Tuesday thru Friday 11am - 6pm
Saturday 9am - 3pm

Available this week:

  • Asparagus: Bunches are about 0.7 lb. $6/bunch.

  • Green garlic: $4/bunch

  • Chives: $3/bunch

  • Tulips: Available for walk-up sales on Tuesday (limited). $26/bouquet. Pre-order starting Wednesday for Friday pick-up for a full selection.

  • Rye flour - From our friends Noah and Sophie at Alprilla Farm in Warner, NH. They grow the rye and then mill it to order. Certified organic. A note from Sophie: The rye is a culinary variety called AC Hazlet which feels special in a world where most rye seed is bred for cover crop. We like it’s dense, moist, flavorful baking quality, especially in chocolate desserts or a caraway studded sourdough. $8.25

  • Salsa Verde - Made by Kenneth at Eastern Mass Provision from our own organic tomatillos, onions, garlic, jalapeños and cilantro. Mild. $9

  • Hot Sauce - Made by Kenneth at Eastern Mass Provision from our own organic habañeros, aji rico, fresno, cayenne, Hungarian hot wax and garlic. Hot. $9

  • Baer’s Best Beans - Black Turtle, Italian Cranberry, and Cannellini. Grown by Charley Baer in South Berwick, ME. Certified Organic. $8.50

  • Seedlings: $3-$5 for herbs; $6 for tomatoes (and later in the week peppers and eggplant), $8 for flower six-packs, $5 for flower four-packs (both flower seedling prices include sales tax). See our 2026 Seedling Sale Descriptions for more info about the varieties! By Saturday we should have zucchini, summer squash and cucumbers ($4 each). Keep an eye on overnight temperatures and only plant these crops outside after danger of frost has passed.

Seedling sale, Mothers' Day tulips and asparagus update

May 4, 2026 Lise Holdorf

This warm weather has us itching to plant, and we imagine home gardeners are feeling the same! We started selling a few cold hardy herbs and flowers last week, but as we get closer to the last frost date, we’ll start to have classic summer crops like tomatoes and zucchini. If you’d like a full list of varieties that we’ll have over the course of the spring, check out our updated 2026 Seedling Sale Descriptions.

In addition to our regular seedling offerings, we’re also for the first time offering a curated box of cutting flower seedlings! Flower types include zinnias, strawflower, cosmos, marigold, celosia, ageratum and bachelor’s buttons. We have chosen varieties that not only look nice together in bouquets, but that are also relatively easy to grow. They are all cut-and-come-again types, meaning you will have a bountiful cut flower garden all summer long! In addition, the seedlings are all grown in soil blocks, so no plastic pots! For more information on what’s included, check out our Flower Seedling Box Description. We will begin taking orders for the seedling boxes soon!

In other news, Mothers’ Day tulip ordering will open up Wednesday evening. We’ll have Blue Wow, Charming Beauty, Dreamer, Orange Princess, Pep Talk, Ranomi (New!), Sunlover, Sunset Tropical, Verona Sunrise, and possibly a few other varieties! Look for an email on Wednesday with a full list and ordering info.

Finally, we’ll have asparagus available for walk-up sales this Wednesday 11am - 6pm! You can pay by cash, check, or by credit card using a QR code on your smartphone. During this early season, we frequently don’t have large enough quantities to have asparagus every day, so when we send out our Mothers’ Day tulip email on Wednesday, we will also update on the status of asparagus!

Tulips, seedlings, greens and more!

April 29, 2026 Lise Holdorf

The tulips have been really taking off with some warmer and sunnier days, so we’ll have a nice selection this week. Don’t worry - there will still be plenty for Mother’s Day weekend! In addition, we’ll continue to have more heirloom narcissus, which we’ll have available for pre-order, as well as for walk-up sales during order pick-ups.

In addition to flowers, we’ve got some of our first seedlings available this week! We’re starting with some cold-hardy herbs and flowers, but before you know it, we’ll have tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, cukes and zucchini. We’re also excited to offer a curated box of cutting flower seedlings in a few weeks. Stay tuned for more details soon!

This is the last week for high tunnel greens, as we are making way for planting our high tunnel summer crops at the end of this week. While this means a break from spring greens for a few weeks, we are moving into a season of harvesting veggies in the field. Green garlic is first up, but asparagus is just around the corner (hopefully by the end of next week).

Ordering will open today (Wednesday) at noon and close Friday morning at 7am. Pick-ups will be on the farm stand porch Friday, May 1st, from 2pm-6pm. If you’d like you order left our for later evening pick-up email melissa@barrettsmillfarm.com. Ordering is open to all - no need to make an account to place an order. Payment is made by credit card. Alternatively, Barrett’s Bucks members may select the “Bucks” option and we will record the purchase in our Barrett’s Bucks records.
